Project Grants




In fiscal year 2009, there were 108 Research Project Grants; In FY 2010, it is estimated that there will be 123 and in FY 2011, 119. There were 65 Clinical Research Resource Center Awards in 2009 (includes General Clinical Research Centers and Clinical and Translational Science Awards). It is estimated that there will be 61 in FY 2010 and 60 in FY 2011. There were 19 General Clinical Research Centers in FY 2009 and it is estimated that there will be 11 in FY 2010 and 9 in FY 2011. There were 46 Clinical and Translational Science Awards in FY 2009 and it is estimated that there will be 48 in FY 2010 and 49 in FY 2011. There were 49 Biomedical Technology Resource Centers in FY 2009 and it is estimated there will be 48 in FY 2010 and FY 2011. There were 100 Specialized Comprehensive Centers in FY 2009 and it is estimated that there will be 100 in FY 2010 and 100 in FY 2011. There were 47 Comparative Medicine Centers in FY 2009. It is estimated that there will be 47 in FY2010 and 47 in FY 2011. There were 23 Research Centers in Minority Institutions in FY 2009 and it is estimated that there will be the same number in FY 2010 & FY 2011. There were 365 Other Research Grants in FY 2009. It is estimated that there will be 368 in FY 2010 & 361 in FY 2011. There were 135 Full Time Training positions in FY 2009. Its estimated that there will be 135 in FY 2010 & FY 2011. There were 91 Research and Development Contracts in FY 2009. It is estimated that there will be 87 in FY 2010 & 89 in FY 2011.

All programs except for RFIP: 1 to 5 years. An Electronic Transfer System is used for transferring funds. RFIP: Construction must be completed within the time specified in grant award. The initial budget period is usually 2 years in length, although extensions may be requested. All funds must be obligated within 5 years from the date of award.
