National Security Education Program David L. Boren Fellowships - (Boren Fellowships Program) - #12.552

Range: $0 - $30,000. Average for 2010: $20,500.

Eligible students may receive a fellowship from NSEP to study for no less than one academic semester and no more than 12 months overseas, and up to 4 semesters domestically. Domestic study is not a required application component to receive funding. Domestic study is limited to language or area studies that enhance a degree program. Total maximum duration is two years. See the following for information on how assistance is awarded/released: Those who receive funding for six months or longer receive a front end payment equal to 50% of their award, the another 30% a third of the way into their funded period, then about 20% another third into their funded period, and finally $500 after returning to the U.S. and completing a language proficiency test. Those who receive funding for twelve weeks to just under six months receive a front end payment equal to 60% of their award, the about 40% half way into their funded period, and finally $500 after returning to the U.S. and completing a language proficiency test.

Boren fellowship recipients are eligible to apply for a Flagship Fellowship if they qualify or a Boren Scholarship if they subsequently enroll in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education.
